Visit Us

The Institute is located at Inselstraße 22, on the corner of Kreuzstraße, a short distance from Leipzig's main railway station. It is close to the city center and the main university building (about 10 minutes on foot). The institute is housed in a striking large yellow brick building, the historic Reclam Carrée.

By Car

From Berlin (coming from the north)
Coming from the A9, change to the A14 at Schkeuditzer Kreuz in the direction of Dresden. Take the Leipzig-Mitte exit and follow the signs for Leipzig-Zentrum (B2). Stay on the main road (B2, 2 lanes in each direction) and follow the signs for Gera. After about 7 km and crossing the railway over a bridge, you will reach Friedrich-List-Platz. After 400 m turn right at the third set of traffic lights into Kreuzstraße (you will see a 'Rewe' supermarket on the left) and after 300 m turn right into Inselstraße. You are now in front of our building.

From Magdeburg (coming from the north-west)
Leave the A14 at the Leipzig-Mitte exit and follow the directions above.

From Dresden (coming from the south-east)
Coming from the A14, change to the A38 at the Parthenaue junction. Take the Leipzig-Süd exit and follow signs for Leipzig-Zentrum (B2). Stay on the main road (approx. 11 km). After passing the 'Bundesverwaltungsgericht' (large 19th century building on the left) turn right into the 'Martin-Luther-Ring'. After 1 km turn right again at 'Augustusplatz' (with Gewandhaus and university building). Turn left at the next intersection. The second street on the left is Inselstraße. After 300m you will see our building on the right-hand side.

From Munich (coming from the south) or Frankfurt (coming from the south-west)
Coming from the A9, change to the A38 at the Rippachtal junction. Take the Leipzig-Süd exit and follow the directions above.

From Göttingen (coming from the west)
Leave the A38 at the Leipzig-Süd exit and follow the directions above.

By Train

From Leipzig main station you can walk along Wintergartenstraße and Chopinstraße to Inselstraße (15 minutes). Or take the tram two stops in the direction of Taucha (tram no. 3) or Sommerfeld (tram no. 8) [tickets from a machine next to the tram station, on the tram, or via the Deutsche Bahn or LeipzigMOVE app] and get off at Friedrich-List-Platz. Then walk towards Hans-Poeche-Straße/Inselstraße. Alternatively, you can also take a taxi directly to the institute (approx. 5 minutes).

By Plane

Leipzig has its own international airport (Leipzig-Halle Airport). To get to our institute from the airport, take a Deutsche Bahn train to Leipzig Hauptbahnhof (main station). It takes about 20 minutes and the train leaves every 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a taxi directly to the institute (around 25 minutes, roughly 50 euros).
